Moving Out of NYC?

What a fabulous fall weekend spent in New York City. We had absolutely no plans this weekend (well, OK, a few) which made it all the more wonderful.

We'll start with those "plans" and get them out of the way. We're thinking about moving out of the city. I know, I know, we've only been here one year, but when we consider our potential (and when I say potential, I mean very likely) plan of staying in New York for 7 or so years...maybe give or take one or two, it really makes sense for us to start thinking about actually purchasing our first place. It's funny because when we were home last weekend, we actually went to look at a house for sale in my hometown. We LOVED this house - it was absolutely beautiful and I had a teensy moment of sadness over the fact that I probably wouldn't have that "our first starter home" moment with my husband. Of course, in exchange for not having that "moment" I instead get to say that I worked at an amazing company in my early twenties and of course, who knows where else I'll end up working, and also, we've now had the chance to live in two amazing cities - Washington, DC and New York City.

While I loved the house, it made me a little bit angry and totally shocked to learn that what we've been paying each month for rent we could be putting towards that exact house...in fact, I think our "payment" would even be less than what we are currently paying each month. So not to drag this on any longer, but basically, we're thinking of moving to either Brooklyn or New Jersey (think Hoboken or Jersey City) in order to start saving our pennies for that potential purchasing moment. So instead of getting to say that we bought our first "house" together, I'll get to say that we bought our first "place" together. Not so bad after all. So the only "plans" we had this weekend were meeting up with appointments to view different apartments. WOOHOO - what a fun process! I've gotta say though, one of the places did have an amazing view...you know we're suckers for good views! :) I could definitely get used to spending some time on this balcony!

Aside from the apartment hunt, we spent the weekend doing whatever we felt like, since for the first time in what feels like a while, we really had no agenda. We went out for lunch, we shopped a little...we just enjoyed walking around the city. I finally crawled out from under my rock and watched Black Swan. It was the next movie in our netflix lineup and I had high expectations since there were such RAVE reviews about it. To be completely honest, it fell short in my opinion. I just didn't think it really lived up to all of the hype. But I'm no movie critic...so what do I know?

Sunday I slept until about nine thirty, but once I was up I knew that it was time for my "long" run in my half marathon training schedule. Considering I've never run a half marathon before, I really should be "training" and more focused than I am. I haven't really stuck to a specific schedule...instead I've just been increasing my mileage. Maybe it's a mistake, but I consider myself to be pretty athletic and I know I'll be able to make it those 13.1 miles...perhaps not as fast as I can, but I can finish it nonetheless. The 7.3 miles that I put in on Sunday weren't bad at all and I'll be bumping that number up to 10 miles this coming Sunday. Fun times I tell ya, fun times! On top of that, I'm not sure what's been holding me back lately, but I just can't seem to drag my butt out of bed to work out in the mornings. Maybe it's the fact that it's so dark outside, but I need to make a change in that department ASAP. I'm pretty sick of having to come home in the evenings to complete my workouts - I really would rather get them finished first thing. I attribute this unwillingness to jump out of bed at the sound of my alarm to the "stress" I've been feeling about work lately. :)

On the bright side, it's a beautiful day here in New York City and I am looking forward to getting some things checked off of my to-do list this week!

Happy Monday!
