We arrived late on Thursday evening and my mom greeted us with fresh baked oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (my favvvvvorite!). We hung out for a little while and then headed to bed since we had to be up early to get me to my doctors appointment and to bring our car by the shop to get a little something fixed. So Friday morning we dropped the car off and then headed over to the doctors (even though my dad informed me that my doctor is really just a "PA") and had my checkup. We stopped by our local Krispy Kreme so that we could have a little breakfast snack (M. of course went with the Original Glazed and I ordered up a Blueberry) and then headed home for a little bit.
We have a bunch of gift cards from the wedding that we wanted to use so we decided some shopping was in order for the afternoon, but we ended up not buying anything just yet. I'm still waiting for just the right things to use the gift cards for, but I'm pretty sure that some of our gift cards will go towards buying a nice kitchen knife set -- M.'s knife set from Target will only take us so far and since we're really getting into cooking I think it will be a safe purchase! :)
There were some really cute things on sale at my local Lilly store that were hard to resist, but I'm attempting to not buy anything new until I am officially back to my "wedding weight," yes, I will admit it...I've gained 5 pounds since the wedding...not ashamed either...I've been enjoying some amazing meals lately, but definitely getting back on track! :)
Anyway, so there were definitely a lot of cute things I wanted to purchase, but I refrained and instead just admired the beautiful fall clothing. I must mention though, I popped into J.Crew for a moment or two while M. was finishing up a purchase at Brooks Brothers...I was just not impressed with their inventory at all. Maybe they were in the middle of adding new clothing to their store, but it was terrible! Luckily though I still love visiting the J.Crew clearance center where you can buy the clothing at a MAJOR discount. I can't wait to go back and use the gift card that my sister in law gifted me for my birthday!
We also stopped by a few other stores to pick out my new Flip camera gifted to me by my parents-in-law and my brother-in-law! We found a GREAT deal and I absolutely love my new mini camera! I practiced making videos all weekend and I know it's going to be the perfect thing for our travels and adventures being married! :)
So my mom had informed us that she had a surprise dinner planned so we didn't want to eat a huge lunch. Instead, before picking up the car we stopped for a quick lunch at one of the best BBQ places in town. Yum -- BBQ sandwiches and hushpuppies (no wonder I've gained 5 pounds!). After lunch we picked up the car and headed back home to relax before dinner that evening.
Turns out the surprise my mom had planned wasn't going to be able to work out. She had planned for us to go to the country club that evening and have our "wedding meal" again (since we didn't' really have a chance to fully enjoy it on our actual wedding evening). Unfortunately the club was too busy that night to work the meal out (since it was originally planned for Saturday evening). Instead though, we made reservations at a restaurant in town that I hadn't ever dined at and it turned out to be FABULOUS. We started out with a fabulous bruschetta appetizer with sprouts, heirloom tomatoes, lump crab and beef tenderloin (interesting combination, but SO GOOD), pre-dinner salads (mine with goat cheese and spiced pecans), and then AMAZING seafood and surf and turf meals. Definitely one of the best meals I've had in a while! My parents also surprised M. and me with a very generous wedding gift and they also gifted me one more fun birthday present -- a brown pair of Tory Burch flats! I've been thinking about buying the brown pair and now they are nestled safely in my closet! :) Thanks mom and dad! :)
We skipped dessert at dinner because my mom said she had something for us at home. When we got home she pulled out a mini cake made by the same baker that did our wedding cake (in one of our wedding flavors!). I loved it! Even though we didn't get to enjoy our wedding meal, I certainly didn't mind enjoying some of our "wedding cake!" So sweet and such a nice surprise! Of course we had to do a few cake cutting pictures!!
Saturday morning we were up relatively early to get ready for our cooking demonstration. We found our seats in the same room that M.'s parents held our rehearsal dinner and were immediately served a "morning" blueberry pancakes cocktail. It was pretty delicious, but unfortunately one of the ingredients turned me off a bit. M., my dad and mom seemed to enjoy it though! The demonstration was SUPER fun and the food was absolutely delicious -- definitely something we'll sign up for again! The chef of the restaurant was really entertaining and we learned a few cooking techniques too. We were surprised that not one of us took home a door prize, but we plan to attend more of these "classes" in the future so maybe we'll win another time! :) Luckily though, we didn't leave empty handed...in addition to our full tummies the chef also presented each guest with a homemade chocolate and butterscotch bar -- sooo good!
We drove home and all laid around for a bit. Until my mom and I decided to go off shopping for a little while. I needed to pick up something for a surprise party I would be attending later that evening and it was fun to spend some alone time with my mom!
Before we knew it, it was time to leave for the surprise party for my dear friend Ashley and her NEW fiancée Peter! A few of us planned to meet for dinner as a surprise for the newly engaged couple. It was SO fun seeing her face when she walked through the restaurant doors and I SO enjoyed hearing about their plans and reminiscing on our fun college times together. It was a really great time celebrating with the love birds and a little sad since I'm not sure I will have a chance to see her again for a while (she's planning on making the move to London around the 1st of September). I'm so happy for them and cannot wait to see what their future together holds! Peter is a great guy and I still can't believe that she met him while we were living in London together! They're an amazing couple.
We drove home late that night (we had about an hour and a half long drive back to my parents house) and slept in the next morning. When we woke up though we were greeted by some Krispy Kremes and the possibility of a My mom and I made paninis and a little guacamole and packed everything up so we could enjoy a little time on the boat. The weather was beautiful this past weekend (although boat ride/lunch before leaving to make the drive back to DC. VERY hot), but the lunch on the boat was the perfect way to end it!
Another fabulous weekend spent with my amazing husband and family. I have a feeling that this fall season is going to be a super fun one! :)
