M. Officially Becomes a JD!

This weekend was positively wonderful, but unfortunately way too short! A HUGE milestone for my fiancee -- he graduated from Law School and is officially a JD!

We woke up very early on Saturday morning to get ready to leave for NC for M.’s law school graduation festivities. We made it into town around 12:45 and we stopped to pick up the cake M.’s mom ordered for his celebratory dinner for Sunday evening. My mom and sister (who just finished her sophomore year of college and started her second internship today!) met us at the bakery and I ended up going back to my house with them and M. went off to meet his parents who were just then arriving in town/went to have his tux fitting with his brother for the wedding.

I dropped off a few wedding things while at home and we did a final fitting of my dress with the veil and accessories – we had to make sure everything was perfect and ready to go! After my mom showed me many wonderful wedding details that have come together over the last few weeks I changed clothes and got ready to meet M. and his parents and brother downtown for the Dean’s Reception.

The reception was really nice. M.’s family had the chance to meet some of M.’s professors and faculty members who he was close with. We also had the chance to catch up with many of his friends and their wives/fiancées. Many of them mentioned that they are looking forward to our wedding and I am so excited that they will all be coming – it will make everything a lot more fun! :)

After the reception we made our way further downtown to enjoy a meal at one of our favorite Bar & Grills. We met M.’s Uncle and Aunt and their four kids. Dinner was fabulous and we all had a great time catching up.

It had been raining on and off all afternoon so we were afraid that our final event of the evening would be rained out, but the show went on and we all made our way to the local minor league baseball game where the fiancée of one of M.’s friends had organized a really nice party in one of the boxes at the stadium. We had the chance to catch up with more of M.’s friends and enjoyed the atmosphere of the baseball game.

By the time the game ended we were all pretty tired so M. and I headed back to my parents house to chat for a little while as well as pack the car with many of the gifts I received at my bridal shower. Since I flew into NC for that weekend I had no space for all of the wonderful gifts that the shower guests gave me! After filling the car we made our way to the hotel where we were staying for the evening.

Sunday morning we were up around 9:00 am to start getting ready for M.’s big graduation celebration! The ceremony started at 3:00 pm, but the doors to the venue opened at 2:00 pm and we wanted to be in line waiting to get in by about 1:45 pm. Either way, we all dressed up, grabbed a quick bite to eat with M.’s sister and her husband (who had just arrived in town that morning) and made our way to the Carolina Theatre where M.’s graduation ceremony was held. My parents and sister had actually arrived even earlier than we did and had a spot at the front of the line!

The theatre was absolutely beautiful and the ceremony was really wonderful. We had great seats, the music was beautiful, the speakers delivered very thoughtful speeches and gave great advice to all of the graduates…the entire event was very special. After all of the degrees had been given, and every graduate was wearing their hood, the class recessed from the theatre and marched to a local park downtown where the law school held a really nice reception for everyone. We met M. at the park where we proceeded to take many, many pictures, congratulated all of M.’s good friends, and generally just basked in the excitement of M being finished with law school!

After mingling in the park for about an hour we left to make our dinner reservation. We ate at a beautiful bistro (the same restaurant that will be doing the food for our rehearsal dinner), enjoyed a delicious piece of M.’s “chocolate covered strawberry” celebratory cake, and opened gifts. M. was surprised to receive a beautiful, antique scales of justice from my family, his first “real” briefcase that I picked out for him at Brooks Brothers, and to everyone’s surprise a brand new Taylor guitar from his parents, brother, sister, and brother-in-law.

Overall, the weekend couldn’t have been more special. I am so proud of M. and so excited to see what his law future holds!
