A Very "M." Birthday

I think M. really enjoyed his birthday this year. It wasn’t anything over-the-top, but it was still really fun!

Before we left my parents house my mom had an impromptu birthday dinner for M. and also invited one of her close friends & her husband over too, because coincidentally, her husband and M. share the same birthday. My mom pretty much re-made the delicious meal we had our first night home – the beef tenderloin, the mushroom casserole (again, one of my NEW favorites), homemade bread and twice baked potatoes – it was all very delicious. We also put together a quick red-velvet cake with cream cheese frosting. My mom’s little dinner party was really fun and I think the two birthday boys enjoyed it too!

On Monday, M.’s actual birthday I came home from work and took him out to an Italian restaurant in Old Town that he has wanted to try. M. ordered a veal dish and I enjoyed a hearty pasta dish (this was my last day before my workouts began again, so I definitely indulged). The restaurant was really good, but it still didn’t beat our absolute favorite Old Town spot, Gerianos. I asked the waiter if he would take our picture and he asked what the occasion we were celebrating was – of course I told him that it was M’s birthday and he immediately brought out a complimentary piece of their tiramisu complete with birthday candle.

The dessert was DELICIOUS and we ate the whole piece, but I had made reservations to take M. out to another fun restaurant for dessert – now you would think that we would have said…”let’s just go another time, we already enjoyed dessert,” but NO WAY – we drove to the next location and were seated at a cozy table.

M. ordered the chocolate lava cake with ice cream and I ordered the “chocolate bar” which was a riff on a kit kat bar – truffle top layer with a crispy bottom layer, surrounded by melted chocolate sorbet and served with malted vanilla ice cream. Um. Wow. This was delicious and I will certainly be heading back for that exact same dessert!

After dessert we made our way back to the apartment. I had already given M. one of his gifts, a Brooks Brother’s shirt that he had noticed a few weeks ago, but yesterday afternoon his real present arrive – a Kindle! He was so excited he opened it even before I got home from work!!

Another great birthday spent together…and many more to come!!!!!
