Married Girl = Mom Hair?!

A few months before the wedding I told my hair stylist (while having my hair trimmed) that after the wedding I may want to cut my hair. He replied with a "Oh, no no no, don't be one of those 'I just got married so I'm going to cut my hair short' women." This comment didn't really surprise me (just because you have to know the guy who cuts my hair), but I haven't particularly noticed that women who are just married (or at least the ones that are my age) go out and chop off their locks?!

Either way, I wasn't exactly thinking of going for a pixie cut or a "mom" cut (whatever style that is?!?!), but I was definitely thinking about going back to "shorter" hair with some side swept bangs. My long hair is often pretty lifeless and boring so having a shorter cut actually allows me to play around with my hair style a little more. Not to mention the fall and winter months always mean static which makes my hair extra difficult to deal with.

Anyway, I haven't made any drastic changes to my hair (in fact, I really NEED a haircut) and my hair is still long, in fact, it's really long now (for me at least) and I don't plan on cutting it anytime soon (but believe me, there are still those days when I seriously consider it).

I'm a big fan of a ponytail or at least just having my hair pulled back away from my face. I don't often wear my hair down (again, when I have short hair I wear down almost all the time), but in an effort to change up my hair without actually cutting it off I have incorporated the side braid into my style rotation.

It's sort of a preppy throwback -- not your 2nd grade hair-do -- instead the side braids on the fashion runways are crafted to be preppy classic mixed with high fashion style. Instead of a sleek pulled back look, the stylists have created more "messy" styles with deep side parts (often times with a little volume and pieces here and there) and undone braids. Even when they have gone for a more sleek look, they keep the braid clean and the top section messy. I think it's a nice look and something pretty and a bit unexpected for the everyday girl to wear for the fall.

What do you think about the side braid?! Are you liking the style or are you afraid it will bring back too many memories of elementary school?!
