October 2011 will bring a new fragrance from Avon -Step Into Sexy - It's a fragrance for the woman who aspires to be her most sensual self and was inspired by the transformative power of slipping on a pair of beautiful high heels.  (The fragrance inspired by actually trying to walk in high heels is still under development, tentatively called "Owwww!")

Nothing has the ability to make you feel older then looking down at your hands and seeing brown spots! Of course your hands get the most sun exposure and few people remember to apply sunscreen there so that doesn't ease the problem.  There is help!  Just keep in mind that if you are going to go to all the trouble of banishing the brown spots, you will have to remember your sunscreen or they will return!

La Roche-Posay Mela-D Hands - 50ml - $18 - fragrance and paraben free, it contains Kojic Acid + LHA to help slough off dark, dead cells on the skin surface to promote a brighter and more even skin tone.  I love the feel of this cream and how quickly it absorbs! I do have a couple of freckles on my hands which are still there, a little lighter but still there - but I do think my hands look brighter and more evenly toned and it's a good moisturizer.  I think if I really wanted the freckles gone I would need to use this for much longer!


Avon Anew Clinical Luminosity Pro Brightening Hand Cream SPF 15 - 75g - $15 - formulated with injectable-grade L-Aspartic acid to help inhibit pigment production and reduce the look of dark spots as well as visibly retexturizes skin's appearance for younger-looking hands.Dramatically reduces the look of creepiness and fine lines in just one week.  I think having the sunscreen built into the cream makes all the difference with seeing results - it's so easy to forget and not having it undoes all the work of applying a lightening cream.  It does take a little extra rubbing for it to absorb because of it though.

La Senza - Hello Sugar! - 50ml EDP - $18.50 - I loves me a sweet fragrance and this one is yummy!  Top notes of sugary berries and vanilla, mid notes of bergamot, raspberry, strawberry, cotton candy, black licorice and liquid caramel and base notes of vanilla, sandalwood and musk.  Available in store or online at www.lasenza.com.
LUSH Tuca Tuca Solid Perfume - $8.95 - if you're feeling a little girlier, how about some violet with spicy sandalwood, smoky vetivert and vanilla.  Tuca Tuca is the pre-release from a new compilation of eight different scents set to launch this month.  It is also available as a 30ml spray for $29.95 and a 9ml pen spray for $10.95.

Avon Matte Nail Enamel - 12ml - $5.99 - available in 4 shades:  Black as Night, Grey Cement, Violetta and Red Velvet.  Matte polishes have been big for a while now but I have never actually used one before.  I read up on it first so I knew that I shouldn't use a base coat, definitely couldn't use a top coat and that I should avoid hand lotions or anything else that might be hard on the colour (I also took this to mean I shouldn't do any housework - I'm in!)
I quickly learnt that the application process is a lot less forgiving with matte polishes because you can't even it out later with a top coat - but this grey was my favourite of the colours, I think it has a cool edgy look!
The purple isn't showing as matte as it really was because there is a little bit of sparkle to the colour that is being reflected off the flash.

I'm still on the fence about matte polishes, I am going to have to use them some more to get my application technique down!  Any tricks or hints would be much appreciated!

mark. on the dot eye color compact - 6.75g - $18 - 9 high impact colours with a metallic finish - from neutral to electric! The two palettes above are available September - December.

mark. seeing stripes eye color trio - 2.26g - $7 - available in four limited edition shade trios: cocoa puff, baby blues, so jaded and violet riot - each shadow square includes three complementary shades and all four trios fit in a mezzo size snap to it custom color palette.  Available November - December.

MD SkinCare by Dr. Dennis Gross Hydra-Pure Vitamin C Brightening Serum - 30ml - $112 - with an 18% Vitamin C complex - a lot of vitamin C products don't have much of the actual vitamin in them so I was happy to find this one - 18% is a decent amount!  The packaging is great, to use it the top swivels and then pops up to show the pump, when you close it, the pump swivels back down - this way no air can get in and mess with the active ingredients.  I did find it quite thick for a serum, so I actually used it in place of a moisturizer as well, which was fine for me during the summer weather, with sunscreen on top of course!  I had heard other people complain that it was very irritating, burned and felt stingy but I didn't experience any of these issues - I would recommend doing a test patch first to make sure you aren't going to react - get Sephora to make you a little sample of this first so you don't shell out big bucks for something that isn't going to work for you!  I definitely did notice that my skin looked brighter and felt smoother when I was using it, so I'm a fan!  My only disappointment with it - it doesn't smell like citrus, which I love in Vitamin C products!

Avon Anew Clinical Luminosity Pro Brightening Serum - 30ml - $60 - brightening gel helps remove dull skin cells to visibly retexturize the skin's appearance.  Anti-Dark Spot helix is formulated with injectable-grade L-Aspartic acid to help inhibit pigment production that causes dark spots.  Instantly makes skin look brighter and more even-toned.  Formulated for all skin tones and types.  Use every evening after cleansing and before moisturizing.  Again I found this way too thick to be called a serum -  I never used moisturizer on top, it was enough moisture for me on its own.  I thought the texture was very silicon-like, much like a face primer.  I really like the overnight factor with this one, waking up with bright, soft skin before I even do anything to myself in the morning is a big improvement over my usual early morning look!  I did find that this serum felt very greasy on the oily parts of my face so I ended up using it very sparingly in those areas.

Clarins Gentle Exfoliator Brightening Toner - 125ml - $34 - if you are super oily and prefer not to use serums you might want to try a toner instead.  Use it 1 to 2 times a week and make sure you use your sun protection as the AHA's in it may increase your sun sensitivity.  It also contains tamarind for gentle exfoliation and white nettle to refine enlarged pores.

You'll do yourself a world of good if you start moisturizing your neck and decolletage area now - along with your hands, it's one of the areas that can really show your age even if you have taken great care of your face.  You can use your regular moisturizer or if you feel like getting fancy, there are special creams especially for these areas, here are a few that I've tried, with mixed results:

Avon Solutions Neck & Chest Perfector Refining Cream SPF 15 - 100ml - $20 - It says it helps reduce signs of sun damage, blotchy discolourations and fine wrinkles in the delicate neck and chest area. It is a lovely thick lotion that is very moisturizing - be careful about how much you pump, I found a full pump was way too much - half was just right!  What I really like is the SPF that is in this product - if you are wearing a top that exposes your neck and chest you should be using sunscreen on those areas too but who ever remembers to do that? So by using this cream not only will it help me fix any damage already existing, it will also protect me from future damage, perfect!  And of course you can't beat the price!

Biotherm Décolleté Laser Anti-Aging Corrective Serum - 50ml - $55 - It claims that it firms the appearance of skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles, moisturizes and plumps skin as well as works on age spots.  If you like a lighter serum rather than a cream, you will like this one - and the serum seems to have a bit of shimmer to it so it looks really flattering on the skin.  It actually made my skin feel firmer and my skin looked smooth and moisturized so I would definitely repurchase this product.

StriVectin Neck Cream - 40ml - $113.99 - It claims to visibly firm and tighten the neck area, reduce the appearance of sagging "turkey neck", improve the look of neckline and décolletage, even out skin tone and discolourations.  I really wanted to like this just for the sake that the term "turkey neck" makes me laugh, I'd love to be able to tell you it's worth the money and did everything it said it would, but alas, it's just a jar of overpriced moisturizer - not even good moisturizer at that, it felt kind of weird on my skin, like it wasn't sinking in properly or something.  If you have a lot of money and like to spend it on overpriced cream that doesn't live up to it's claims, then by all means pick up a case of this stuff, otherwise save yourself the money and effort of rubbing it in, and buy 5 of the Avon ones or 2 of the Biotherm and consider it money much better spent!

It's funny how different a colour can look in the bottle then on your nails - looking at these colours in the bottle I would have thought they would have been similar, but on my nails, they really aren't!

If you have been enjoying the benefits of mineral makeup - which is manufactured with minerals which are sterilized and pulverized into a very fine powder which is then mixed with a variety of natural inorganic colorings to produce a variety of colors as opposed to traditional chemical-based makeup, you'll be happy to know that there are now a lot more choices in mineral mascara too. If you have sensitive eyes or the skin around your eyes is sensitive and you have had issues with mascara in the past because of it, mineral mascara will be a godsend to you!  I don't have sensitive eyes but do prefer a more natural look and I find that mineral mascaras tend to be less clumpy looking then regular formulations. We all know that you can spend a mint on eyeshadow should you have the mind (and the bank account) to - but it's not absolutely necessary to spend a lot to get something good!  It's just hard to know what will work for you without trying them and a lot of the time, drugstores just don't offer testers so you can end up wasting your money on shadows that suck!

There is something about a mask that heats up that really makes me feel like it's actually doing something!  These are all intended for those with oily/acne prone skin so as I have combo skin, I only use them in trouble spots and not all over as I find them too drying for the normal and dry areas of my face!

Biore Self Heating Mask - 8 single use mask capsules of 7.5g each - $12.99 - purifies pores, exfoliates skin and combats shine. This one really heats up - so much so that when I tested it on my husband he only lasted a couple of seconds before he was whining that it was too hot and had to wash it off - wimp!  So if you are sensitive or a wuss you might want to try a patch test first - I had no issue with the heat of the mask and I really like the capsule idea - makes it very handy for traveling! What's different about it is you apply it to wet skin, massage it in for a minute while it turns blue and then wash it right off - perfect for people with a short attention span!
Montagne Jeunesse Self Heating Fudge Sauna Mask - 15g - $1.99 - with a delicious vanilla fudge fragrance it contains Mediterranean clay to revitalize, refresh, moisturize and soothe the skin and draw out impurities for deep cleansing. Wet face and leave on 5-10 minutes. I almost wish these packets were smaller because there is way more then you need for one facial!  So use it with a friend or seal up the extra and use it another time! A never to be missed part of my morning routine is an illuminator - even on days that I can't be bothered with foundation a little bit of brightening cream is a must for making me look alive!  Having tried multitudes of them, here are my faves for each price point - high, mid and low!

Yves Saint Laurent Touche Éclat - $42 - in seven shades: 1 Luminous Radiance, 2 Luminous Ivory, 3 Light Peach, 4 Luminous Toffee, 5 Luminous Honey, 6 Luminous Amber or 8 Radiant Silk.  I love the look and feel of my YSL and really appreciate that it comes in different shades as well has choices for various undertones.  For an instant pick-me-up you just can't beat it!

Smashbox Photo Op Under Eye Brightener - 7.1ml - $22 - infused with vitamins and peptides with a brush applicator.  Comes in one universal shade which seems to work on most people but not sure how well it would blend on dark skin - if you are light to medium it's a great choice though!
Avon Magix Illuminator - 1.5g - $14.99 - instantly brightens skin and banishes dark shadows and is available in three shades: light, medium and dark. Gives you the brush and click tube of my pricey pick but way more affordable.  Only downside would be if your skin tone doesn't mesh with any of the 3 choices. With the holidays full upon us, I spend a lot more time out of the house then I would like.  Strangely enough, people look at me funny when I cart around a train case full of makeup so I am forced to streamline things a bit.  Here are a few of my favourite space savers:

Avon Pro Colour & Goss Lip Duo - $10 - lipstick on the outside, lip gloss on the inside! Comes in 10 colours: pink bouquet, mauvelous, foxy brown, sunset glow, perfect nude, poppy love, twig, passion plum, hot lips and berry luscious.  This clever little tube is a 3-in-1 product, you can wear the lipstick or the gloss alone or you can wear them together.  Love the space saving aspect of this, it's the perfect thing to throw in your purse and it gives you lots of options in one little tube.  The only thing I don't love is the gloss delivery method - it comes out of the little hole in the middle of the lipstick and you squeeze the bottom of the tube to get it out.  I'm always afraid I'll squeeze too hard and end up with gloss everywhere!

Stila One Step Makeup - 30ml - $57 - available in 8 shades and by one step they mean that it contains your primer, foundation, concealer and powder all in one bottle.  It contains 100% natural mineral pigments, has a buildable coverage, is paraben and fragrance free, minimized pores and diminishes the look of fine lines and wrinkles as well as hydrates, balances and controls oil.  I tried it out this summer and it's still a favorite, you can find my review here.
NARS The Multiple - $46 - Orgasm is the perfect all-over colour - it's a peachy-pink that I love as a blush, lipstick and as a shadow to wake up tired eyes - it comes in lots of other colours if you prefer something lighter/darker, but none have as good a name!
