Now to recapping our weekend…I got off of work early on Friday after setting up a party, so I decided to take Thatcher for a nice, long walk and run a couple of errands. I ended up passing by a fruit stand and could not resist buying a couple of cartons of beautiful, red strawberries. They smelled DIVINE and I felt like they were a perfect “end-of-summer” treat for the husband and me. I ended up making them extra special by dipping one of the cartons in melted semi-sweet chocolate. YUM! While I was hard at work dipping fruit in the kitchen while Thatcher took a long nap on the couch (which is currently being recovered hence the white sheet for now).
Once closing time rolled around for M., I met up with him at his office and we immediately made our way to enjoy some pizza for dinner. I indulged in delicious mushroom and sun-dried tomato, while the Mr. went for his usual pepperoni and sausage combo. Delicious! Even though I had already prepared dessert, we couldn’t resist stopping by a recently opened Potbelly location for one of their amazing chocolate chip oatmeal cookie ice cream sandwiches! Seriously people, you’ve got to get one of these things! SO yummy. We decided to split the treat since we were almost completely stuffed from the pizza! :) The remainder of our evening was spent hanging out at home. I worked on a couple of home projects and then we called it a night. It’s always so nice going to sleep on Friday night knowing that the whole weekend is ahead of you!
We knew that our Saturday would be spent wandering through Central Park with the pup. The weather was absolutely beautiful and we always love to get in a few long walks on the weekends. We got ourselves ready and then headed out. We walked for a good seven miles and the park was busy, although not as busy as I thought it would be with it being a holiday weekend. I had a specific goal in mind for the end of our Central Park trip…which was to pay a visit to the newly opened location of Laudree on Madison and 71st. M. was so sweet to stand in line with me for TWO HOURS (yes, this is one of the reasons the title of this post references “waiting”) so that I could pick up some of the famed macarons. The pup was getting tired of hanging out in line, so M. ended up waiting across the street once I actually made it in the shop. I quickly took inventory of their “menu” and then had my choices ready.
The décor in Laudree is just to die for and the adorable employees are perfectly French. The sweet owner of the location even handed out water to all of the people waiting in the long line – so nice! I also witnessed him escort a very, very old woman to the front of the line so that she wouldn’t have to stand in the heat. I couldn’t help but stop and admire the beautiful and not to mention, deliciously fragrant candles (I’m obsessed with one in particular that pretty much smells like caramel and butter swirled together – mmmm) as well as the gorgeous floral arrangements they had displayed around the shop (hot pink and petal pink roses, yes please!).
I was so happy to finally step out of the shop with my colorful box of macarons (yep, I waited for two hours so I bought a whole box!) and I was so excited to try my choice flavors….pistachio (x2), strawberry & mint, cassis, caramel with salted butter (x2), vanilla (x2 – one for me and one for M.), chocolate (x2 – one for me and one for M.), rose, coconut, raspberry (x2 – one for me and one for M.). I must say – these macarons were delicious and surprisingly, my favorite ended up being the rose with the caramel with salted butter coming in an incredibly close second. I’m not usually a huge fan of “rose” flavored treats, but the texture of this macaron, the perfectly pink colored shell and the fluffy filling was really the best of the bunch…but again, I certainly enjoyed BOTH of those caramel with salted butter macarons too! :)
After our excursion, all we wanted to do was go home and relax. Seven miles and two hours in line later we were both exhausted. We spent the remainder of our evening ordering in and while M. watched the college football games, I worked on still more “home” projects. Climbing into bed that night felt soooo good simply because I knew I still had two more days of relaxation and fun ahead of me!
Sunday we had a lazy morning and then got ourselves ready for the US Open! M. ended up getting last minute tickets from a co-worker and we headed off towards the stadium early in the afternoon. After about a 45 minute train ride to the stadium, we popped out and explored the surrounding area before getting into the second line of the weekend to wait for our chance to explore the grounds and eventually sit down to watch the tennis matches. The grounds at Arthur Ashe Stadium were HOPPING with people. There were tons of food options, so we had a light dinner at the stadium and topped it off with a little ice cream. We walked around a little more before heading to our seats. I snapped a couple of photos about 30 minutes before the first match started. I also ended up buying a long-sleeve US Open shirt since the weather was a little chillier than I expected…plus, you can never have enough t-shirts….right mom?! :)
The match was really fun to watch. We saw Andy Murray beat a player from Spain (I believe his last name was Lopez). It was amazing to actually see these awesome players in person…they’re just so talented and the way they hit the ball is so flawlessly…and their serves….I still can’t get over their amazing serving. We stayed for the beginning of the women’s match, but since we were at the “night” session, the women didn’t end up starting their match until around 9:45pm. I didn’t want to be on the subway SUPPPPPER late, so we left after the first couple of games.
Our day Monday was spent just hanging out and running some errands! I actually scored some really cute finds at HomeGoods that I want to share with you later, but for now...off to do more work and prepare for yet another LONG weekend! :) :)
Happy Wednesday!
