I was doing a little surfing on the internet the other evening when I just randomly decided to check out Dooney & Bourke's website. Remember that Louis Vuitton kinda-sorta-knock-off pattern they had? You know, the white bag with the rainbow D&B logo all over it? I definitely had one in high school and wore it proudly since at the time, Mischa Barton was the face of the style and I was ABSOLUTELY obsessed with her Marissa Cooper character on The OC. Anyway, I actually sold that purse on eBay a while back, but I have to say I was completely and pleasantly surprised by some of Dooney’s current offerings.
Let me share a few of my favorites with you!
First up, well, it’s actually the first bag to pop up on their website, The Smith Bag. I’m loving the deep caramel leather, the refreshing shape and...OH! Those tassels! I have a weakness for anything with a tassel. At $398 this would certainly be an investment piece for most, but it would surely keep you looking classically stylish for Fall.
My second pick? - A bag from the Dillen II collection, the Medium Zipper Pocket Sac. A more familiar shape, but I would chose this bag in an unexpected color. My personal favorites are the Dark Grey and the Emerald (which unfortunately you can't actually see the bag in this color on their website). I love the idea of sporting a sleek black wool coat paired with the vibrant green leather bag. Crisp and beautiful! On sale now for only $201, this bag is a definite steal!
You all know my love of all things Grace Kelly, and while someday I WILL HAVE the iconic Hermes bag named for the princess, for now, I need to find cost friendly alternatives…as you may guess, living in New York without holding an “executive” job title means that this gal is still pinching pennies where she can! :) So while the Alto Medium Framed Compartment Bag from Dooney & Bourke is not a dead ringer for the Kelly bag, it would be a great substitute and still a beautifully crafted piece. At $545 this is DEFINITELY a piece that you want to keep for years so if I had to pick a color I would steer clear of the red and go with any of the other choices – Saddle, Natural, Brown T-Moro, or Black.
So while you may remember Dooney & Bourke as an old-school standby, it seems to me that the line has been perfectly refreshed and transformed their pieces into classic staples needed for every preppy girl's collection. Happy shopping!
