The summer months are definitely coming to a close even though the heat is still here in full force. This week is supposed to be a little bit cooler, but we definitely felt “summer” this weekend.
My boss let us out of work early on Friday (which meant 2 pm instead of 3 pm – tough life, I know) and I had the chance to take this ridiculous floral arrangement home with me. It was actually delivered to the office at the beginning of the week gifted by of one of our previous interns. A sweet gesture, but this thing is massive…and the vase and giant plastic looking leaves…not all that pretty. The orchids however, are beautiful, so I figured I could enjoy the “massive” arrangement for a few days and then break it down into something a little more manageable for M. and my place. I’ve never arranged orchids before so hopefully I don’t completely mess them up!
Another relaxing weekend for the hubs and I. We dined out, picked up a few gifts for a wedding we’re attending at the beginning of September and also a gift to send to a wonderful couple whose wedding we unfortunately cannot attend, and stayed up late hanging out (which of course meant sleeping in the next day). On Saturday we ventured to the Dupont Circle area (I have never been to the area) with the full intention of visiting a DC staple, Ben’s Chili Bowl, for lunch. Unfortunately the restaurant was packed to the brim so we passed on it this time, but will certainly be back for an official visit sometime soon! Instead we wondered through the neighborhoods and eventually came across a little by-the-slice pizza place, Flippin’ Pizza. We’re desperate to find a good pizza place in this city and thought that Flippin’ Pizza was pretty darn good! Definitely more of a New York style slice, but at a way better price!
After lunch I needed (as in, had to have) something sweet and refreshing. It was SUPER hot on Saturday and I was craving ice cream. Months ago M. mentioned that Potbelly, the DC sandwich joint had delicious ice cream cookie sandwiches so after passing by the local Potbelly we put on the brakes and made our way into the restaurant to order said sandwich. Um – amazing. Turns out they normally make them with chocolate chip cookies, but it must have just been my luck that they made mine with oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (MY FAV!). It was seriously FABULOUS – pretty much made my day (sad, I know).
After that snack we walked through the city for a little while longer, and then headed home to enjoy the wonderful air conditioning in our apartment. We surfed the net for a little while, watched TV and then I decided it was time to clean! We had planned on seeing a movie that evening and I decided I wanted to come home to a perfectly clean apartment so I got off my butt and straightened everything up and vacuumed just in time for us to leave for dinner and our flick.
We ended up seeing The Switch with Jennifer Anniston and Jason Bateman. I’ve always like Jennifer, but I especially love Jason Bateman! I think he’s super funny and he did not disappoint in this movie (although his role turned out to be more dramatic than comedic). It was sweet that M. let me pick the movie this weekend (we rarely see movies in the theater anyway) and I was afraid he wouldn’t enjoy it, but turns out he really liked it…and so did I! If you want a light hearted, fun movie with an adorable ending definitely go see this movie. Also, the little boy who plays Sebastian…oh my goodness…he’s just too cute.
Yesterday we took a walk and just enjoyed being together! We took our usual trip to the grocery store to stock up for the week – we’re having fajitas tonight and I’m making my homemade pizza on Thursday! :)
Have a wonderful Monday!
