City Saturday: Through a "Vintage" Filter

Good morning!

It’s a beautiful day in New York City – the temperatures have dropped a bit (probably thanks to the rain we had this weekend) and there is an amazing breeze blowing through the maze of buildings in this part of town. I like starting the work week when it’s as beautiful as it is outside. It simply makes everything feel fresh and new again.

We stayed quite busy this weekend enjoying lots of time outside (although it was much hotter on Saturday and Sunday than it is today). I figured I would give you a sneak peek into some of our Saturday happenings here in the city (accompanied by photos that I edited with a bit of vintage flair).

Originally I wanted to see a movie, but since it was so pretty out I decided not to waste it and instead, M. and I decided to take a long walk. We ventured throughout SoHo and Greenwich Village weaving in and out of the little streets lined with old houses and tiny restaurants. Whenever we venture that way, we always seem to pass by this beautiful tile work on the side of an old building and I decided it was time to capture it in a photo. I love that this is just randomly on the side of an NYC building…so unexpected and the blue and white is so crisp. Even though we’ve been living in NYC now for almost a year (can you believe that!) we’re still not perfectly familiar with all of the streets and directions. Luckily M. is always at the ready with his i-phone and the Google Maps app. While we did our fair share of wandering, it’s also nice to have a clear path sometimes! :)

Many people were enjoying their Saturday early afternoons with brunch on the outdoor patios of the area restaurants, but M. and I were convinced that a more substantial lunch was calling our names. We ended up stopping by Bleecker Street Pizza, for what I think has been the most amazing slice we’ve tasted thus far. No showy storefront or crazy pizza toppings here – we went with their “best” slice as the owner told us, a simple thin crust pizza with homemade marinara, fresh mozzarella, basil, and finished with parmesan. Oh, yum. It was seriously so delicious and the prefect afternoon lunch with the husband. I think from now on when we’re in the mood for pizza, Bleecker Street will be the way to go.

One of my favorite stops of the day was visiting the Kate Spade store. Ahh...so many beautiful things! If I had all of the money in the world I would snap up every single item...and then some! One of the Kate Spade employees actually complimented me on my Kate Spade earrings...little gold seahorses that my sister gifted me this past Christmas. I've worn them a ton this summer and I've received many compliments on them. It's funny to look at a photo of your ears, let alone the side of your own face. Funny story, those little beauty marks on my face...well M. likes to call those my "constellation". Once I had a doctor tell me that they'd be "easy to remove" when we weren't even on the topic in the first place (um, rude). I've decided that they give me a bit of character and of course, can't get rid of them now that the husband has his sweet nickname. :)

On the way out of the Kate Spade store we noticed a bunch of people gazing up towards the sky. The sky was so blue on Saturday which ended up being the perfect canvas for this little sky-message. I'm still not sure what exactly was "On Sale Now," (the beginning of the message had already blurred) but I've never seen sky writing done that way and thought it was pretty neat!

We did a bit more wandering around, popped in a few shops here and there and then headed home for a little break. I caught up on some blogs and a little TV too.

We capped off our evening with a walk with the pup and a quick dinner out (nothing fancy), oh, and did I mention the ice cream too? As standard as it may be, a ColdStone Creamery concoction was calling my name and I couldn’t resist – my Strawberry Blonde (strawberry ice cream, graham cracker crust, caramel, strawberries and whipped cream) was the perfect finale to a wonderful Saturday spent in the city…although next time I shouldn’t be so boring and maybe I should indulge in a more “local” treat. :)

I hope your weekend was as sweet as mine!
