So my first day at my new job has come and gone and boy was I in for a surprise. I commuted to work (I am currently staying with a family friend) which took me just under an hour. I woke up SUPER early this morning, 5:30a.m. to be exact to make sure that I had enough time to shower, make myself look pretty, walk to the train station, arrive at my location and then walk another 20-25 minutes or so to my office. I haven't had an NYC work commute since the summer of 2007 and boy am I already getting a workout with all of the walking -- I forgot how it feels to walk so much -- I know my legs and waist will thank me later -- for now I will just have to deal with the blisters.

I stopped in at a coffee shop to finish up some of my paperwork around 8:15a.m. and had a quick phone call with my husband. I arrived at the office for my "new employee orientation" session at 8:45a.m. and it only ended up lasting about an hour and a half. It was very inform
ative and I was so excited to be sitting in a conference room in my brand new office. I had the opportunity to meet some of the other new hires which was also really fun -- such a diverse office!

When the orientation was over I was walked up to my new office/desk. My new office building is INCREDIBLY different in comparison to my old office space. My new space is very bright (andthankfully warm - something my old office was not) and lively with all of the creative happenings. Desks are really fun -- each employee has put their own twist on their work space, but this morning in the orientation session we were warned that at times people will come through the office/desks to make sure things are in order and not completely out of control. The new company I work for often hosts events in their office space so it's key that employees keep their work spaces presentable.

When I first arrived at my desk it was completely clear with the exception of a really pretty glass container sitting in the back right corner and a fun silver lamp to the left. I had to wait for IT to come and bring me my computer so I found some things to dowhile I waited and I read through the manual that the previous girl wrote out for me. Not too much later my colleagues treated me to lunch out. We stopped at a little cafe and I enjoyed a delicious fritatta topped with simple greens. It was really great to have a chance to chat with my new colleagues and to learn about office life. I really am excited about the environment I'll be working in -- very creative, totally inspiring.

When we arrived back at the office after our lunch, my computer was arriving and being hooked up to the system. Before I knew it I had about 30 emails coming my way and about a million different tasks to conquer. They certainly threw me right in -- no time to relax -- and SO, SO many new things that I need to learn in a very short period of time. To say it was stressful would be an understatement. I was completely overwhelmed and literally in the blink of an eye it was already the end of the work day and I still had about five tasks to accomplish. This new job is going to be nothing like my old position, which is great, but I'm not going to lie, I may have came home this evening and had a bit of a breakdown. There are a lot of changes going on, but I know that it will just take me a week or two to start really feeling comfortable and familiar with my new responsibilities and my new life in the city. I am confident that I will start really loving the position once I know my way around things a little better.

Also, I already miss my husband SO incredibly much. I thought I
would be OK with being apart for the first day or two, but coming home and not having the support system right next to you (when you're used to it being there) is killer. I'm really, really looking forward to seeing M. this weekend.

So today will surely be another adventure! I'm ready for the challenge, as difficult as it may be. I don't ever do these, but I figured I would take pictures to show you what I wore for my first day at the new job. I figured I should be safe my first day so I decided to go the classic route...black, black and more black! :) I chose an Ann Taylor black and white tweed skirt with a sheer ribbon edge detail (one of my favorite skirts!), a classic v-neck
black sweater from J.Crew, black tights and my Burberry quilted boots.
Instead of wearing flashy jewelry (I figured we would be taking ID photos -- and I was right!) I went with my Tiffany pearls that M. gifted me on our wedding day and a simple pearl and diamond drop necklace. I pulled my hair back in a ponytail with a really fun black bow hair accessory to tie it all together. I was pretty much ready to go.....but then of course I needed to add a little bit of PINK somewhere, right!?! I threw on my favorite petal pink pashmina that I bought while I studied in London and my black cashmere/wool coat from J.Crew and I was ready to go! It was a chilly morning/walk to the train and unfortunately I forgot my gloves -- you can bet that won't be happening tomorrow!!

Thank you all for your sweet comments on my post yesterday! I absolutely loved (finally) logging on to my personal email account this afternoon to see all of the love from readers of my little blog! It certainly meant a lot to me! :)

Have a wonderful Tuesday everyone! :)
