I almost thought I wouldn't have a chance to blog today, but alas, I am hanging out with my mom in the "lounge" room of our apartment building and luckily it has a free internet connection so I can catch up on my blog reading while we watch Dancing with the Stars (not a show I usually watch on Mondays).
How was your weekend?! Mine was really wonderful! M. arrived very early on Saturday morning (he wokeup at 4:30am to drive here) with a car full of our things (mostly my clothing) and boy was I excited to see him! We shoved the rest of my stuff into the car and headed off to the city to make our way to our new apartment building. Two cart loads of things later we were lounging in our brand new space! We were so happy to finally "be" somewhere, but we couldn't stay in the apartment for long because we literally had nowhere to sit! :)
All day Saturday was spent roaming the city and getting familiarized with the area we'll be living in for the next year. We walked, and walked all day long, stopped for a slice of pizza for lunch (DC pizza I will NOT miss!) and just enjoyed the beautiful day. We went by Central Park and admired the beautiful Plaza Hotel. M. tired quickly because of his early morning wake-up call, so we stopped for an early dinner, picked up a delicious piece of cake and cupcake from my favorite, Billy's Bakery, and then we headed home. After filling up the air mattress we attempted to watch a DVD, but M. was far too tired (and actually, I was too!) so we decided to call it a night.
Sunday we walked over to Chelsea Market and throughout Greenwich Village. We also made our way to Rockefeller Center and watched the ice skaters go around and around. It's literally amazing how much smaller the rink looks now that I've seen it a handful of times. It seems like every time I see it, it gets smaller....or maybe I'm getting bigger?!?! Either way, we decided around 2:00 that we needed to stop for some lunch/dinner and relax a little bit before my mom was set to arrive that evening. We went by a local BBQ restaurant (we were in need of a little South!) and watched the football games for a while. We made our way back to the apartment to straighten up (what we did have) before my mom arrived and in no time she was here!
I was excited to see my mom (who spent the weekend at my younger sisters University for parents weekend) who brought with her some necessities, but I won't lie and say that it was easy saying goodbye to M. It certainly brought me back to our London days away. The day that he is here with me will be really sweet.
So today at work was OK. I don't mean to keep talking about the problems I've had or the "hard times," but it's like some days I take a step forward and then the next day two steps back. What's really funny is just how difficult all of the technology has been on me....typically I am really on top of computers, computer programs and trouble shooting issues with both, but for some reason every time I try to do something I do it like 5 times unsuccessfully and then RIGHT when I ask the girl next to me for help "it" suddenly starts "working" again without fail. It drives me nuts, but I guess all I can really do is laugh about it! I must say though, I am looking forward to the day that it all "clicks" so that I stop looking helpless in front of my co-workers!
When I came home from work this afternoon my mom had done the impossible -- she cooked chili and apple crisp with nothing but a crock pot, a cake pan, butter knives, and paper towels (well, of course she had all of the ingredients) -- it was sort of like that show Survivor Man except the kitchen edition...my mom is a master. She peeled and sliced apples using a butter knife, shook up the topping in the plastic bag from some of the groceries, hunted down a can opener to get the chili going...and it all tasted just like it always does...delicious...even if we did have to eat it off of paper plates! :)
So I know that this post is coming a little late in the day, but better late then never...it may be like this all week, so I sure hope you'll stick with me! I hope you all had a wonderful Monday and have an even better Tuesday!
