In other non-boring-weather related news I’m so happy that it’s already Wednesday and happy that I chose today as my rest day from running. My muscles have been getting pretty sore and tight so I figured I’d “sleep in” this morning and pick it back up again tomorrow. I don’t think I’ve mentioned it on the blog yet, but M. and I have decided to finally, OFFICIALLY begin training for a half marathon. No – we haven’t chosen a race yet, but I’m thinking about a couple that take place in the August/September time range and then we’re thinking about also signing up for the Disney Half Marathon which we planned on doing this past January, but ended up not due to our move to NYC and not really knowing what kind of time I would get to take off from my new job.
So like many of you have written about on your blogs, we’re planning on using the Hal Higdon method to train. I’m going with the Intermediate level training plan based on my natural athletic ability (sounds braggy, but I promise it’s not meant to be!) and the fact that I can already run 5 miles easily on any given day. I figure it will be the best fit for me. M. will also be following the intermediate plan because…well..that’s what I’m doing! We'll also be lengthening the training program since we don't have a set race just yet. I figure I will modify some of the long runs to build up gradually until we have a more concrete race date.
For my first couple of races (when I eventually sign up...and yes I plan on running more than one) I plan on not putting a ton of pressure on my timing, but rather focusing on running for the duration of the race and for simply finishing! Once I get into the groove of “racing” again (brings back memories of my cross country/track days) then I will start really challenging myself as far as my times and mile splits go. This will certainly be an interesting journey and a goal that I have been wanting to reach for a while now!
Any quick advice for the beginning of my training/half marathon….*maybe eventually a marathon* journey?!
Happy Wednesday! The weekend will be here before we know it! :)
